In the immediate hive of Sunday’s activity after a European MotoGP™ it can be easy to find Pol Espargaró sitting in the Red Bull Holzhaus Energy Station eating a bikini. The 28-year-old is not chewing on beach clothing but a toasted ham and cheese sandwich (so called in Catalonia). It’s almost a ritual. A small ‘reward’ for the sandwich-crazy lead rider of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team that is deep into its third term at the pinnacle of motorcycle racing.
Getting to the finish line first is what MotoGP™ is all about, but to make that happen, you need to be able to scrub off speed efficiently. We take a closer look at how braking force supplier extraordinaire Brembo successfully control the negative acceleration forces for all four Red Bull KTM Factory Racing MotoGP™ riders.
Numbering well over 120 people and fabricating up to 70 race bikes to tackle classes from the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup to the peak of MotoGP, the road racing division of KTM’s motorsport department has expanded and developed at a rate of speed akin to the motorcycles themselves. Nine riders and motorcycles filled the new City Hall building in Mattighofen. The 2019 presentation not only showcased the fresh faces and colors that will adorn KTM’s fastest ever collection of race machinery but also the stunning breadth of the factory’s effort in MotoGP.
There are plenty of just a bit too serious interviews on our MotoGP heroes, so instead we thought we’d keep it nice and casual. We met up with Pol Espargaró and Bradley Smith in the Red Bull Hospitality to do a little quiz. The KTM duo had to guess each other’s favorites, and for every right answer they scored a point.
