Full-speed ahead in every respect – that’s what KTM is all about. This also means keeping on top of what’s going on in the world of motorcycling, be it touring bikers or owners of powerful single-cylinder beasts. The KTM 790 ADVENTURE in particular, presented in two versions at the EICMA, and the return of the completely overhauled KTM 690 SMC R caught the attention of KTM’s army of enthusiasts. Two decades ago, as the global market leader in the offroad sector, KTM also successfully gained a foothold in the sporty street and touring bike segment with a successful technology and design offensive. Even from first glance, KTM bikes have boasted an unmistakable KTM design pedigree for years – we don’t need our logo to stand out!
A car from Mattighofen? A conservative family car, or READY TO RACE on four wheels? It seemed inconceivable for fifty years, but became a reality exactly ten years ago.
Have you looked at part of a KTM and wondered ‘how did they come up with that?’ Ideas fly around constantly in the fabrication of a motorcycle or an update of a current model. In an effort to tap into that creative process of what makes it onto a bike (and what doesn’t) we peered into the confidential world of R&D at Mattighofen …
Kiska is a prominent name when it comes to the look, shape and function of each KTM but how exactly do the two companies work together to make the motorcycles? We went to Mattighofen to ask …
There was a range of little details and fresh ‘oranges’ on the robust stand at the EICMA show last week but it was clear that the appearance and growl of the new 790 DUKE was firmly center stage. We spoke to Product Marketing Manager Adriaan Sinke on the prototype that everybody was talking about …
Eagled eyed visitors to the INTERMOT show and subsequently the fresh 2017 SUPER ADVENTURE model range by KTM might have noticed a curious new headlight in the offing. The catching LED unit (and cornering lights on the SUPER ADVENTURE) is about to make an even bigger impact at KTM and we spoke to Kiska’s lead designer, Craig Dent, for the truth behind the glass …
As the dust settles from our inaugural KTM Australia Adventure Rallye – and all us Rally riders have high country withdrawals – we take a look back at one (or rather two!) aspects of the ride that have so far flown under the radar. Their names are Reno and Anita and they hail from a place called Kiska.
How KISKA are coming up with ways to make life easier when the gate drops. When was the last time you really looked at a dirt bike? Of all motorcycles on the market a typical SX, for example, is fairly rudimentary: wheels, chassis, suspension, motor, plastics, seat and bars. There might be some superb tricks of technology going on that are invisible to the naked eye but rarely does a Motocrosser seem to push barriers of design. Or does it?
Statistically speaking, you spend 22.37 years of your life in bed. Another 16.63 years are spent at work and you’re ill for 4.29 years …. That leaves about 5.2 years for DUKE riding. All in all, not too bad an outlook. Just DUKE it! Advertising for a motorcycle may have been unusual 20 years ago, but so was the motorcycle.
